Sudan: Rapid Support Forces Consolidate Control of the Border Triangle

    By: Charilogone Editorial Staff

Since June 10, 2025, the situation in the border triangle between Sudan, Libya, and Egypt has taken a new turn. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced they had regained control of this strategic area, previously held by the Sudanese army and its militias. On June 11, 2025, the Sudanese army confirmed its tactical withdrawal, while the RSF claimed a significant military victory that could shift the balance of power in the region.

This advance by the FSR, led by General Hemeti, comes amid heightened regional tensions, with clashes between the army and paramilitaries rocking Sudan since April 2023. According to military sources, this offensive reportedly received support from elements allied with Libyan Marshal Khalifa Haftar, leading the Sudanese army to denounce it as a "flagrant violation of international law."

The border triangle is a hotspot for strategic resources and also plays a crucial role in combating illegal immigration and human trafficking. The RSF's capture of this area could influence the geopolitical balance in northern Sudan and impact relations with neighboring countries.

The RSF's capture of the border triangle represents a major military advance, but it also raises questions about regional stability and Sudan's diplomatic relations. As the Sudanese army attempts to reorganize its forces, this RSF victory could escalate tensions and redefine the dynamics of the conflict in the country. The coming days will be crucial to determine whether this new development leads to a military escalation or an attempt at negotiation.
