General Abdourahamane Tiani: Military Leadership Serving the Republic of Niger
By: Charilogone Editorial Team - Afrique CentralOn March 26, 2025, Abdourahamane Tiani, former commander of the presidential guard, was officially promoted to the rank of Army General and sworn in as President of the Republic of Niger for a five-year term. This ceremony was held at the Mahatma Gandhi International Conference Center in Niamey, marking a key milestone in the country's political transition.
This promotion and inauguration are part of the promulgation of the "Charter of Refoundation," adopted at the National Conference in February 2025. This charter, now considered Niger's fundamental law, sets the duration of the transition at five years, renewable depending on the evolution of the security situation and national priorities.
During his speech, President Tiani emphasized the importance of this transition for strengthening Niger's sovereignty and called for national unity in the face of security challenges. He also announced important measures, such as the dissolution of political parties and the release of certain prisoners, in accordance with the recommendations of the National Assembly.
Abdourahamane Tiani, who came to power in July 2023 following a coup d'état against President Mohamed Bazoum, now embodies a new phase of leadership for Niger, with a vision focused on national reconstruction and sovereignty.
