Sudan: Birth of a Peace Government under the Tasees Coalition

    By: Charilogone Editorial Team

The Tasees coalition has marked a decisive turning point in Sudan’s political crisis by announcing, on July 26, 2025, the creation of a parallel Peace Government, aimed at countering the military regime based in Port Sudan. Composed of political parties and armed movements, the coalition seeks to establish inclusive governance to overcome the country’s persistent institutional divisions.

At the head of the Presidential Council, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has been appointed president. He is joined by Abdelaziz al-Hilu, leader of the SPLM-N (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North), who assumes the role of vice president. The position of Prime Minister goes to Mohamed Hassan al-Taayishi, while al-Hadi Idris becomes governor of Darfur.

In the eastern region, Mabrouk Salim, leader of the Free Lions Party, is appointed governor, and Faris al-Nour takes charge of Khartoum. The Ministry of Interior is entrusted to Sandal.

The Legislative Council is now led by the National Umma Party, under the presidency of Fadlallah Burma Nasir. Finally, Ibrahim al-Mirghani, a senior figure in the Original Democratic Unionist Party, has been nominated as Minister of Information.

This alternative government, proclaimed in Nyala, South Darfur, reflects an ambitious mission of national reconciliation between civilian and military factions. It aligns with the vision of a secular and democratic state, while raising concerns about the risk of institutional fragmentation and escalating tensions between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF.
