Avenir Moussaye de la Tchiré Case: Court Summons for Defamation in Chad

    By: Charilogone Editorial Staff.

The journalist and editor of the Abba Garde newspaper, Avenir Moussaye de la Tchiré, announced that his hearing has just concluded. He was summoned following a complaint filed by the Ombudsman of the Republic, Saleh Kezabo, who accuses him of public insults and defamation. This case originated from a live broadcast conducted by the journalist on April 22, 2025, in which he addressed the issue of the peace agreement signed between Saleh Kezabo and the Misky Self-Defense Committee.

In his April 22 intervention, Avenir Moussaye de la Tchiré strongly criticized the peace agreement concluded by the national mediator with the Misky Self-Defense Committee. According to his statements, this agreement raised questions about the management of tensions in the region and the relevance of the authorities' decisions. These comments led Saleh Kezabo to initiate legal proceedings for insults and defamation.

After answering questions from the relevant authorities, Avenir Moussaye de la Tchiré returned home to await a possible further summons. The outcome of the proceedings could determine whether charges will be formally brought against him or whether the case will be dismissed.

This case highlights the sensitive issue of freedom of expression and the limits of journalistic discourse in Chad. It raises questions about the space given to journalists to criticize political decisions and the authorities' response to content deemed defamatory.

The situation remains unresolved, and future developments could have a significant impact on the Chadian media landscape.
